Skunkbush Sumac

RHUS TRILOBATA - SKUNKBUSH SUMAC - The western U.S. counterpart of aromatic sumac. A medium sized, multi-stemmed shrub reaching 4 to 6 feet in height and spread. Adaptable to dry, high pH soils. The trifoliate leaves are aromatic when crushed. Dry fruit clusters are utilized by many bird species. Can be used into climatic zone 3, native to the western Dakotas and Intermountain West.

Cultivar: 'Bighorn' - a USDA, Los Lunas, N.M. PMC seed propagated selection from the Bighorn basin of Wyoming reaching 8 to 12 feet in height.
