                          Ptelea tree form

Ptelea trifoliata – Hoptree or Wafer ash – A large multi-stemmed shrub or small tree reaching 12 to 18 feet in height and spread in our area.  Native from the eastern U.S. to Minnesota and south through the central and southwest U.S.  Prefers well drained, moist sites but tolerates periodically dry soils.  An interesting, native plant which produces greenish white flower clusters followed by round winged, dry fruits.  A member of the rue family, the foliage is aromatic when crushed.  Can grow in full sun or part shade.
