| Robinia pseudoacacia – Black Locust – A tall, single stemmed tree of the legume family reaching 40 to 60 feet in height on good sites. Form is upright oval becoming irregular with age. Tolerates dry, infertile soils and is very adaptable to variable growing conditions. Trees under stress will sucker from the root system and form colonies. White, very fragrant flower racemes are followed by small pods. Widely used in conservation and reclamation plantings where adaptable although susceptible to borer damage. Zone 4 hardiness. |
