Corylus cornuta – Beaked hazelnut – An upright, multi-stemmed, suckering shrub reaching 6 to 15 feet in height, forms loose open colonies by the root suckers. Fruit differs from American hazelnut in having an elongated leafy covering over the nut resembling a beak. Grows best in full sun but tolerates shade well. Native across southern Canada and adjacent northern U.S. states.
